So I got back from Montreal yesterday. The worst part is always going through Vermont and No. New Hampshire because the 89 is way too long. Regardless, I always enjoy the view. It was nice going to Montreal without Shawn because I don’t need to speak english (although, frightfully, I’m starting to loose my french vocabulary one word at a time); I also don’t have to entertain him. It’s pretty much a girl world when I’m up there. The men either gone, sick or at work during the day which leaves time to chat about anything amongst us girls. It actually KILLS Shawn on the inside because he obviously can’t follow the conversation. Also because I drag him to my Grandma’s (she speaks english though), my friends Marjorie and Amelie, my aunt Marie’s, Marj’s mom’s house and of course my mom. TOO DAMN MUCH for one guy to handle in four days!
There is always eating smoked meat, drinking beer downtown and looking for sports jackets but that’s about as much entertainment a married guy can have alone in Montreal. So to that end, Shawn wasn’t there.

The things I used to do when I lived in Montreal that I did this week.
-Shopped in Chinatown for snacks and Harajuku Girl type of clothing (it’s sick)
-Drink coffee at any given time
-Drink beer and wine and any given time (yay for the Metro)
-Go the the Museum of Contemporary Arts (it was very stimulating)
-Buy clothes at Simons
-Eat Pizza (our kind with all the topping under 1/2 inch of cheese)
Funny thing is since I’m not there everyday, people feed me… a lot. My Grandma’s apple pudding, my aunt Marie’s new reciepe, my Mom’s graisse de roti, Marj’s Mom’s Baklavas…
People: I am now fat!

Things that Quebec/Canada offers that would make the U.S. the ultimate best country in the world.
-Three [major] party elections (the third is not independant)
-1 year maternity leave. (defferable to Dad as well; and he has to come back to the same job with same salary: equality)
-The Pork (between our bacon and filet, it’s just the best meat I’ve had)
-Cheap Real Estate where things are affluent
To that end here are the things that SUCK about Quebec/Canada.
-waiting two MONTHS for a routine MRI (ask anyone… our healthcare is free but slow and the older you get the less you can afford to wait) it doesn’t include serious injuries though.
-TAXES; take 40% of your salary if you work full time and then 15% for ALL PURCHASES (food, clothes, beer…)
-The bureacracy: getting things going for any branch of the government is a pain in the ass.
-Our leaders are pretty much helpless; harmless but nonetheless helpless.
-The Tragically Hip (sorry Quinn…)

Guys: It’s not all beer and good ol’ Ste-Catherine fun up there. It’s fun to visit but can you truly live there and not miss what you were raised here with? The grass is always greener I guess.
